GLOBAL
ORPHANAGE
FOUNDATION
welcome to global orphanage foundation website
Global Orphanage Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses its funding on serving the orphanages of the world. It is our belief that every child deserves a stable happy environment to grow up in. Our three main areas of focus are meeting basic needs, providing education and bringing joy.
Global Orphanage Foundation was organized in 2009 with one reason in mind: to give hope to orphans around the world for a better and brighter future. Our main concentration, at this point of foundation’s development, is on Russian Orphanages.
Over 800,000 orphans live in Russia, increasing at the rate of 113,000 per year. UNICEF estimates that 95% of these children are social orphans, meaning that they have at least one living parent who has given them up to the state.
In 2008, parental rights were revoked for more than 90,000 citizens of Russia.
2,176 orphanages exist in Russia as of today. The number of orphanages has increased by more than 100% in the last decade.
Statistics on orphans graduating from orphanages/institutions compiled by the Russian Ministry of Education are as follows:
- Approximately 15,000 children leave Russian orphanages each year, usually at the age of 16 or 17 years of age
- 50% of orphans after graduation fall into a high-risk category
- 40% become involved in crime
- 10% commit suicide
- 33% stay unemployed
- 20% become homeless
- Only 4% are admitted to universities
Even though our initial efforts will concentrate on Russian orphanages, Global Orphanage Foundation will pay attention if some global disaster strikes, like the one in Haiti, and will try to help poor children in any way we can.
Please take a look at our current projects and consider donating today.
We are in a process of posting all the details and information right now, and hope to be done with the new site by the end of the month. Thank you for all your help and support.
